Ben joined the staff of PPS in late 2000 as a project assistant, helping to organize the Great Parks/Great Cities conference in July 2001 and contributing to the redesign and maintenance of Urban Parks Online. After the conference he turned his attention to PPS's communications and advocacy efforts, working to launch the PPS membership program and the Making Places newsletter.
In his capacity as newsletter editor, Ben has communicated the lessons of PPS's research and project work to a growing audience of over 20,000 planners, designers, engineers, activists, public officials, artists, and concerned citizens. Ben has also written about topical issues ranging from London's congestion pricing mechanism to the public space qualities of the Seattle Public Library. Articles he has authored and edited have appeared in Landscape Architecture, New York Newsday Sunday Magazine, Designer/Builder, and Parking. In addition, he has produced case studies and articles for clients such as the San Mateo County Transit District and the US General Services Administration.
Ben now works on PPS's program to make public buildings into centers of community life, and continues to manage Making Places and PPS membership.
